Well, this just blows. That chick at the checkout, asking if I'm in the "Borders Club" or whatever the f it is, can just suck it. Borders is going out of business. When I moved to the Las Vegas valley, business and industry wasn't yet quite so segmented. We may not have monopolies these days, but we've surely got duopolies and triopolies. Think of any category of thing, and you'll have trouble going beyond three proprietors, won't you?I've lived in the Las Vegas valley for 16+ years. All of them have been in the southern valley, 13 of them in Enterprise Township, in the southern-most section. In all of that time, I've had a bookstore in my area for about four years. At Town Square, one of those "looks like it's been here forever" retail clusters, Borders has had a spot. It was the first an only bookstore in my region in the whole time I've lived here.
So now we're down to Barnes & Noble. Period. Yeah, capitalism?
